Have you ever made a quilt that didn't go quite as expected?
A couple years ago I saw this beautiful quilt in Love of Quilting magazine called All the Buzz designed by Angela Huffman. I loved it so much that I saved the pattern expecting that I would make it some day.
Then, as fate would have it, I found a fabulous floral fabric while travelling. Wondering what I should do with it, I started rifling through all my patterns in hopes of finding something perfect. Ta Da! This is it!
So, I started pulling fabrics from my stash that complimented the floral fabric and before long, I had a plan for making my quilt. In my mind, it was bright, colorful, playful, and (of course) gorgeous.
Then, as I was sewing it together, I thought "Hmmm, I don't really like how this floral looks in these blocks." Instead of stopping to reevaluate my design, I carried on thinking that I would like it better when all the blocks were sewn together. Nope.
Now, I have a quilt top that's not at all how I expected it to be. That's OK - I'll put it on the longarm because quilting can make a big difference. I chose a design representative of an old garden gate and got to work. My husband came down to the studio and I told him that the quilt did not end up how I expected but that I was going to finish it anyway. He said "yea, whoever designed this didn't really have a plan." Oh honey.... This is MY quilt, not a customers! LOL!
The quilt may not have turned out how I saw it in my head, but I still have it hanging in the studio. It provides warmth and adds brightness during these dreary winter months. I call it "I Never Promised you a Rose Garden," because things don't always turn out as we expect.
